Why Should You Straighten Crooked Teeth?

Misaligned teeth can cause these dental problems:

  • Speech issues
  • Uneven bite
  • Wear and tear
  • Tooth decay
  • Cracked teeth
  • Jaw strain

Crooked teeth may make it difficult to clean areas between teeth. If these spaces are not cleaned properly, bacteria can form and plaque may build-up, resulting in tooth decay. Straight teeth not only look great but make it easier to clean teeth and gums more effectively.

Benefits of Invisalign

Straightening crooked teeth with Invisalign can help patients prevent problems that plague crooked teeth such as gum disease and tooth decay. Using Invisalign to straighten crooked or misaligned teeth may also protect against conditions such as teeth clenching and grinding as well as sleep apnea. Invisalign is often a faster and more comfortable treatment option than traditional metal braces, which can pinch the gum tissue surrounding teeth and often have an average treatment time that spans several years. The average time of treatment with Invisalign is twelve months or less. Patients who use Invisalign can also take clear aligners out to eat and brush their teeth, so there are no dietary restrictions.

Treatment with Invisalign

During your initial evaluation, Dr. Lassiter will discuss your goals for your smile and take dental impressions and photographs of teeth. Using the information gathered at the examination, he will create a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs. Once you receive your aligners, they will be worn for about 2 weeks for 20-22 hours per day, removing them only to eat, drink, brush and floss. With each new set of aligners, your teeth will move closer to their optimal alignment. Clean your new aligners daily with gentle brushing using a soft-bristled toothbrush. Invisalign treatment is no more painful than traditional braces. You may feel some mild pressure or discomfort as you adjust to each new aligner, but this discomfort will fade as your teeth adjust.
